Your phone and your friends
A phone doesn't play the music. It connects to the computer that runs Mix-a-Mash, and it shows the same screens as the computer.
The key idea
The phone and the computer need to be on the same Wi-Fi. A phone can't find the computer over mobile data.
Two ways to connect
The app's first screen asks "How will you use Mix-a-Mash?" On a phone, two answers connect to a computer.
| Compare | Your remote | A guest |
|---|---|---|
| Who | You, with your own phone. | A friend, with theirs. |
| In the app | Choose "Control my own computer". | Choose "Join a mix". |
| Account | Sign in with the same account as the computer. | No account is needed. |
| Steps | See Use your phone as a remote. | Scan the join code on the Guests card. How joining a mix works has more. |
What the phone shows
Both kinds of phone show four tabs along the bottom, Home, Live Mix, Library and Requests. A friend who joins lands on Live Mix.
Home
Live Mix
Requests
These pictures were taken on a phone that joined as a guest. A phone that is your remote has the same tabs.
What a friend can do
In the current app, a friend who joins gets the same controls as the host. They can steer Live Mix, change Mix source in Library, open Settings and use Requests.
The Guests card on Home says "Anyone on this Wi-Fi can join and control the mix." Use a network you trust.
Everyone who has joined can also ask for songs. Requests has the steps.
Install and join steps
The install steps and the steps for letting friends join are in Use your phone as a remote. The join code is on the Guests card on Home.
