Home
Home is the control screen on your computer. It shows whether Mix-a-Mash is running, which mix is playing, what the mix draws from, your playlists and how friends join. A phone remote shows the same screen.
The key idea
Settings is behind the top bar. Tap the bar that says "Mix-a-Mash" to open it, and tap it again to close it.
What the screen shows
From the top, Home has the status bar, the mix, your playlists and the Guests card. Before you add music, it shows only the status bar and an "Add your music library" card.
The Home screen
- The status bar. A dot and a line say whether Mix-a-Mash is running. Tap the bar to open Settings.
- Mix source. One row says where Main songs come from and one says where Vocals come from.
- The mix. It starts with the name and length of the mix, then New mix and three chips for the theme and the two sources.
- The status rows. Four rows say where the mix stands, and the last one has the play and pause button.
- Your playlists. Each tile has a Mix button. The Guests card sits below the tiles.
The status bar
The dot shows the connection. It is green when connected, amber while "Reconnecting…" and red when "Not connected".
The line beside it says "Connected" when all is well. It also names audio problems, such as "Audio engine stopped" or "No audio output".
If the status bar shows a problem, see If something goes wrong.
Mix source
Mix source sets which songs the mix can use. It has two rows. "Main songs" is where the songs that play as themselves come from, and "Vocals" is where the vocals for mashups come from.
Each row shows "Everything", a playlist name or a number of playlists, then a song count.
Tap a row to change it. Pick playlists or "Everything", then choose "Use this". For Vocals you can also pick "Same as main". New songs can start playing from the next part.
Tap "Which songs can play?" for a count of the songs the mix can pick next. The Library guide has the steps.
The current mix
Under Mix source, the same card is about the mix that is open now.
- Name and length. Tap the name to open "Mixes". There you can start a new mix, or open, duplicate, rename or delete a saved one. The length counts the parts and downbeats in the mix so far.
- New mix. One tap starts a new mix with the next free name, such as "Mix 1". Mixes save automatically, so the old one stays in "Mixes".
- Theme. The first chip says "No theme" until you set one. Tap it, type a few words such as "midnight jazz, neon city" and choose "Set". Choose "Clear" to go back to no theme. The mix leans toward the theme.
- Main songs and Vocals. The other two chips name the playlists the mix uses, or say "Main songs: Everything" or "Vocals: Everything". Tap one to open Library.
Four status rows sit under the chips and say where the mix stands.
- The first says whether Mix-a-Mash is ready to mix, and why not when it isn't.
- The second says "Building the mix ahead." or "Enough of the mix is built to keep playing." It says why when the mix isn't building.
- The third says whether audio is working. It offers "Reconnect" when the sound is lost.
- The fourth says "Playing" or "Paused" and has the button to play or pause.
Your playlists
Each tile shows a playlist's cover, name and song count. The row scrolls sideways when there are many. Tap a tile to open that playlist in Library.
Tap "Mix" under a tile to start a mix from that playlist. The Library guide says what happens next.
Guests
The Guests card is how friends join. It shows a join code, and a friend scans it with their phone camera.
Anyone on the same Wi-Fi can join and control the mix. Use a network you trust. The join code and the switch below it don't limit who joins.
- Print card. Makes a card with the join code that you can print.
- Wi-Fi code for guests. Opens a code for joining your Wi-Fi. Anyone who scans it can join your Wi-Fi, so show it only to people you want on your network.
The phone guide shows what a friend sees.
More
At the bottom, "More" opens a drawer. It holds "Add your music", a "Ready for mashups" section for preparing your songs, and "Recent activity".
Settings
Settings opens under the status bar. Open this list to see its sections, from the top.

- Address guests connect to. A friend can type this into Mix-a-Mash on their phone if scanning doesn't work. It appears on a computer.
