Library
Library is where you choose what plays, make playlists and look through your songs. A phone remote has it too.
The key idea
Library has two separate controls. Mix source, at the top, sets what the mix plays. The filters over the song list only change the list.
What the screen shows
When the screen is wider than it is tall, Mix source and your playlists sit on the left and the song list on the right. On a phone held upright, the playlists sit above the song list.
The Library screen
- Mix source. Rows for Main songs and Vocals set what the mix plays.
- Your playlists. New playlist and Save filter as view sit above them, and each playlist has icons for filter, Mix, rename, delete and more.
- Mix my music and Opening song. Mix my music starts a mix from all your songs that can play.
- The search box, the sort menu and the filter chips. They only change the list.
- A song row. A dot shows how ready the song is, and three icons on the right add, hide or drag the song.
Choose what plays
The Mix source card has a row for Main songs and a row for Vocals. Main songs play as themselves, and Vocals are used for mashups.
- Tap a row.
- Choose "Everything", or tick the playlists you want.
- Choose "Use this".
Choosing a source for Main songs
- The sheet title. It says which row you are changing, Main songs or Vocals.
- Everything. This uses every song that can play, so no playlist is ticked.
- The playlists. Tick one or more. The number after a name is how many songs it holds.
- Use this. It applies your choice, and Cancel closes the sheet without a change.
"Everything" uses every song that can play. For Vocals you can also choose "Same as main", which takes the vocals from the same songs as Main songs.
New songs can start playing from the next part.
"Which songs can play?" and "See what can play" both open "What can play". It counts your songs step by step, from "Songs in your library" down to "Ready to play next". Main songs and Vocals are counted separately.
Playlists
A playlist is a named list of songs. Choose "New playlist", type a name and choose "Create". Then add songs from the song list.
Tap a playlist's name to open it in place. The list below has the icons on its row, from the left.
The icons on a playlist row
| Icon | What it does |
|---|---|
| Funnel | Shows only this playlist's songs in the song list. Tap it again to clear the filter. It doesn't change what plays. Its tooltip says "Show only these songs". |
| Mix | Starts a mix from this playlist. See Mix buttons. |
| Pencil | Renames the playlist. Its tooltip says "Rename playlist". |
| Red bin | Deletes the playlist after you confirm. It can't be undone. |
| Three dots | Opens a menu with "Use for main songs" and "Use for vocals". |
Save a filter as a view
Set up the song list the way you want, then choose "Save filter as view". Mix-a-Mash asks for a name and makes a new playlist from every song the list shows now.
The view is a copy of those songs. It doesn't change when you filter again or add songs to your library.
The song list
The song list has a search box, a sort menu, "Select" and a row of filter chips.
The list says "Filters here only change this list. They don't change what plays." Use Mix source to change what plays.
- Search. Type in "Search title or artist…" to find a song by its title or artist.
- Sort. The sort menu orders the list by date added, title, artist, BPM or length. Choose the same entry again to reverse the order.
- Filter chips. Genre, BPM, Vocals, Energy, Mood, Danceability, Duration and Key narrow the list. "More" adds "Show hidden", "No mashups yet" and "Lyrics issues". Choose "Clear filters" to start over.
- Select. Tick several songs, then choose "Add to playlist" or "Hide".
Song rows
Each row shows a cover, the title, the artist, the speed in BPM and the length. "INST" marks a song with no vocals.
The dot on the left shows how ready the song is. On a computer, point at the dot to read its meaning.
What the dot colours mean
| Dot | What it means |
|---|---|
| Green | Ready for mashups. |
| Light green | Plays in mixes. Not ready for mashups yet. |
| Amber | Not ready for mashups yet. |
| Grey | Still getting ready, or it couldn't be read. |
| Faint grey | Hidden. It won't play in mixes. |
Three icons sit on the right of each row.
The icons on a song row
| Icon | What it does |
|---|---|
| List and plus | Opens a list of your playlists. A tick marks each one that holds the song, and choosing a playlist adds the song or removes it. Its tooltip says "Add or remove this song from a playlist". |
| Eye | Hides the song from mixes. Its tooltip says "Hide from mixes". A red crossed eye means the song is hidden, and its tooltip says "Unhide". |
| Drag handle | Drag the song onto a playlist to add it. |
Hidden songs leave the list until you choose "Show hidden" under "More".
Tap a song to rate it, fix its details, or read its lyrics.
Mix buttons and the opening song
"Mix my music" starts a mix from all your songs that can play. The "Mix" button on a playlist starts one from that playlist, here and on Home.
Either way, Mix-a-Mash fills both Mix source rows from your choice, starts the mix and opens Live Mix.
If a mix is already open, you choose between starting a new mix and "Blend into this mix". A blend keeps that mix and shifts the music over the next few minutes.
If a playlist has few songs with vocals, you can choose "Keep playlist" or "Vocals from all songs".
Tap "Opening song: Auto" to choose the first song. The picker is called "Start the mix with…", and the × beside your choice goes back to Auto. Then choose "Mix my music".
Choosing a first song rebuilds the mix from scratch, so Mix-a-Mash asks you to confirm when a mix is open. Opening song says more.
