Perceptron
Be the DJ! Mix and mash up music and lights, no experience needed. Or dance, lounge, and enjoy the show.
Perceptron is an interactive music-and-light environment where people co-create what they hear and see. The controls are a tablet running Mix-a-Mash, the mashup DJ app I build: anyone can walk up and mix mashups and transitions in real time, with the hard parts handled for them. Orbit's panel reacts with vibrant LED visuals. And when nobody is at the controls, Perceptron keeps the music and lights going on its own.
I've DJed for years, and it's immensely expressive, connecting, rewarding, and fun. I want to make that experience accessible to everyone, and see what new forms of musical joy are possible.
Sound. I make the music engine and the app, and run the mix at events. I've brought versions of it to Critical and SeaCompression since 2022.
Lights. Orbit created Ambisphere and builds the physical space. His write-up of Perceptron has more photos and the story of the 2025 build.
At Critical Northwest, Perceptron is part of Syzygy camp. Interested in having Perceptron at your event? Email aury@mixamash.com.

The app on the tablet is Mix-a-Mash. Run it on your own computer with your own music, and friends request songs from their phones. It's in beta and free.
